Experience
Located in the vicinity of popular tourist destinations such as Unawatuna and Weligama, Koggala is a small coastal town with one of the longest beaches in the country. One side of this coastal town is bordered by coral reefs while on the other side it is bordered by the Koggala Lake. In comparison to other coastal areas in the country, Koggala is relatively uncluttered and hence offers space for relaxation, where one can enjoy the picturesque views leisurely.
Koggala Lake
Koggala Lake is one of the biggest natural lakes in Sri Lanka. A number of islands are scattered in the lake among which the Temple Island, Modol Doova, Bird Island and the Cinnamon island are the most famous. The lake is rich in birdlife and mangroves and is a major attraction for tourists. A boat trip around the lake will leave all you in raptures.
Boat trips to the island Madol Duwa is the most populer activity. There are several providers of Boat Service.

Folk Museum
The house in which Martin Wickramasinghe was born has inspired the Martin Wickramasinghe Trust to established a Folk Museum Complex, surrounded by a restored ecosystem planted with hundreds of varieties of indigenous trees and shrubs in which bird life abounds. The house and the surroundings brings to life a little part of the Koggala which is so vividly depicted in Wickramasinghe’s writings.

Koggala Beach
The uncluttered beach of Koggala is the longest beach in Sri Lanka. It has white sands and glorious blue waters, providing an ideal destination for a relaxing holiday by the beach.

Sea Turtle Hatchery
The “Sea Turtle Hatchery” is situated in Habaraduwa is a non-profit organisation that has been established to conserve and protect turtles from extinction The five species of sea turtles found in Sri Lanka are Olive Ridley, Loggerhead, Green, Hawksbill and Leatherhead turtles The baby turtles hatched are protected and nurtured from any danger.

Still Fishing
Koggala, renowned for its splendid coastal conditions, has been the perfect place for stilt fishing. Silhouettes of fishermen perched on vertical poles with crossbars, waiting for its daily catch – a beautiful and picture perfect spectacle.

Surfing
Koggala and around areas like Ahangama and Kabalana are best surfing places in Southern Coast which gets the opportunity to learn and experiece. There are some surfing centres along the beach that are trained to give surfing lessons for beginners and others. Or else you can hire surfing equipment and swimwear at a reasonable price. If you are willing to do surfing at Koggala Beach the things needed to be concerned about are the sea sends medium cross-onshore conditions and a short but powerful beach break, which is a great surfing location for advanced surfers.

Whale Watching Mirissa
